At 50,000-140,700 kg with -85% progress speed and an 18% rampage chance, it is a much harder fight than the regular Meg. Pro Catching Strategy

Only spawns on real-life weekends, in a Megalodon Hunt that starts during an Eclipse or the night after one. On a weekend you can use an Eclipse Totem, then a Megalodon Hunt Totem during the Eclipse. Sundial Totems cannot trigger the hunt. Expect -85% progress speed and an 18% rampage chance that drops to 9%.

Community Tip

The 18% rampage chance (vs 12% for the regular Meg) combined with a 40% progress loss per rampage (vs 25%) makes this fight brutal. Each rampage also shrinks your control bar by 25% for 2 seconds, and the next one cannot come for 6 seconds.

Did you know?

Catching 1 Phantom Megalodon grants the "Nightmare Conqueror" title, and catching 3 and keeping them in your inventory grants "Deep Sea Phenomenon". The catch quip is "WOAH THE PHANTOM MEG!"

Hunting Strategy

Wait for a real-life weekend - the Phantom hunt cannot happen on other days.
Go to Ancient Isle.
Start an Eclipse with an Eclipse Totem, or wait for a natural one.
During the Eclipse (or the night after it), start a Megalodon Hunt with a Megalodon Hunt Totem; a natural hunt from Disturbance also counts.
A hunt that is already running when the Eclipse begins does not turn into a Phantom hunt. Hunts last 15 minutes or until someone catches the fish.

Spawn Mechanics

The Phantom Megalodon only appears on real-life weekends, when a Megalodon Hunt starts during an Eclipse or the night after one. Sundial Totems cannot trigger or speed up a Megalodon Hunt. The Phantom pool shows blue on the Fish Radar, and Megalodons and Ancient Megalodons can be caught in it too: the hunt ends as soon as anyone catches any of the three, so a Phantom hunt does not guarantee a Phantom. It cannot be caught with the passive effects of certain rods, and a unique cutscene plays when you land it.

Recommended Setup

Best Rod

A rod with at least 50,000 kg Max Kg, since a rod whose Max Kg is below the fish's minimum weight cannot catch it. Rods that rely on passive catch effects do not work. The Fisch Wiki recommends the Ethereal Prism Rod.

Enchantment

Herculean or Unbreakable if your rod falls short on Max Kg. Mystical adds +45% Resilience along with +25% Luck, +15% lure speed and +10% progress speed.

Bait

Shark Head is its preferred bait.

Totem

Eclipse Totem plus a Megalodon Hunt Totem, used on a real-life weekend. Sundial Totems do not help.
