How to Catch Abaia in Fisch
Only during the Abaia Hunt
You cannot catch the Abaia on a normal visit: outside admin events, the Fisch Wiki lists it only during the hunt (checked 2026-10-11).
The Abaia is the Exotic serpent of Skycrest, the boss fish waiting in Abaia's Chamber. It only appears during an Abaia Hunt, which players start themselves.

Pro Catching Strategy
Place all 10 Sky Crystals in Abaia's Chamber, wait for a Tropical Squall (or use a Tropical Squall Totem), then sacrifice fish to the Fire of Spirits to start an Abaia Hunt. Next, catch the 4 Crest Barriers spread across 4 fishing spots around Skycrest (one of them is in the chamber); only then can the Abaia be caught. The hunt lasts 10 minutes. Fish at night with Gombak Bent-Winged Firefly bait.
Its name comes from Melanesian mythology, where the Abaia is a giant eel that guards its lake.
Spawn Mechanics
An Abaia Hunt can only start during a Tropical Squall, after all 10 Sky Crystals are in place, by feeding caught fish to the Fire of Spirits. Feeding the fire also makes Squalls more likely. Once the hunt starts, 4 Crest Barriers spread across 4 fishing spots on the island, the chamber included, must be caught before the Abaia can be. The hunt lasts 10 minutes, or ends as soon as someone catches the Abaia, and only one Abaia Hunt can run at a time. Sundial Totems cannot start it.
Recommended Setup
Gombak Bent-Winged Firefly, its preferred bait. Catching these fireflies on Skycrest also gives 60 Idol Favor each.
Tropical Squall Totem, which Kaito's Weekly Shop sometimes sells for 800,000 C$.
Value Analysis
The Abaia weighs 40,000 to 315,000 kg and sells to NPCs for about 0.27 C$ per kg: about 25,300 C$ at average weight and up to 84,000 C$ at the heaviest (checked October 8, 2026). Each catch also gives 25,000 XP.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- ✗Trying to start the hunt without all 10 Sky Crystals placed
- ✗Feeding the fire outside a Tropical Squall - the hunt only starts during one
- ✗Fishing for the Abaia before the 4 Crest Barriers are caught - it cannot be caught until all four are
- ✗Starting the hunt before your rod and bait are ready - it only lasts 10 minutes
- ✗Bringing the Tranquility Rod - the Abaia cannot be caught with it
Advanced Tips
- →Its -80% progress speed makes it a slow catch, so bring a rod with strong progress speed or resilience
- →A Raging Squall starts the Ancestral Abaia Hunt instead of the normal one
