What Truffle Worm Does
Truffle Worm is a Legendary bait with +300 Preferred Luck and -10% Lure Speed.
Preferred Luck is not a general luck boost. It only raises the odds of catching fish that prefer Truffle Worm. Against other fish it does nothing extra, so check the list of fish that prefer Truffle Worm before you spend them.

About the Treasure Chest Chance
The wiki gives two figures for chests: 5.95% in its Treasure Hunting reward table with Plunderbeak at level 0, and 6.13% on the Truffle Worm page. Both round to about 6%, which is what this page uses for level 0. The reward table also shows the chance falling as the Plunderbeak companion levels up, down to 0.85% at level 10, because Plunderbeak makes rarer chest rewards more likely. The number of worms per successful drop stays at 5-20.
Which Geode Should You Buy?
If you are buying geodes, Coral Geodes win clearly. A Volcanic Geode costs three times as much (900 C$ against 300 C$) and is less than half as likely to contain Truffle Worms (about 2.1% against 4.9%). Per coin spent, Coral Geodes are roughly seven times better.
The spend is not wasted when you miss. Every Coral Geode gives something: 150-500 C$, a fish, or a stack of other bait. If you already carry Treasure Maps, chests can be better value still: completing a map costs 250 C$, and a successful drop gives 5-20 worms at once. How often that happens depends on your Plunderbeak level.
Tips
- Save them for the right fish: Preferred Luck only works on fish that prefer Truffle Worm, so use them when you target those fish.
- Use Magnet bait for geodes: The wiki lists Magnet as the bait for catching both kinds of geode.
- Keep your Treasure Maps: Maps are rare (about 1 in 200 catches), and each chest is a chance at a whole stack of Truffle Worms. If worms are what you want, remember that a higher-level Plunderbeak lowers the Truffle Worm chance.
