How to Get to the Drylands

Step 1. Travel to the Fischfest island - touch the giant purple clam near the Moosewood shore. (Fischfest 2026 guide)

Sand Fishing & Fossils

Sand fishing is the Drylands' signature mechanic: creatures are buried beneath the desert, and you catch them with the Sand Sifter. Two new enchantments support it - Dune lets any rod sand-fish, and Sifting boosts the process. Digging also uncovers ancient fossils, which feed into the questline of Paleontologist Petri, a new NPC whose quests center on the mysteries hidden beneath the sand.

Progress through the Mysterious Marrow questline in the Drylands (the first two quests unlock the rest of the progression).
Collect the required crafting materials along the way.
Travel to the Ancient Archives on Ancient Isle.
Craft the Marrow Rod there.
